A man arrested on suspicion of attempting to steal a generator from a power station has been charged with attempted burglary

A man who attempted to steal from a Bournemouth power station on Tuesday night has been arrested on the suspicion of attempted burglary.

Police were called to a power plant in the city’s south-east shortly before 9pm on Monday, when they found the man with a backpack containing a generator and several other items.

The accused, aged in his 20s, was arrested at the station, but the charge has since been withdrawn.

The generator was located in a shed in the nearby area of a residential building, but there were no damage reports and the man was not injured, police said.

A man and woman who live nearby said they heard a loud bang at the time.

Police said they were not aware of any reports of any criminal activity involving the theft of a generator.
